Tomas and his family of nine live on the side of a large hill less than a mile up a narrow road from our house where we’ve visited them two or three times to chat, pray for them, and to encourage their son who has been part of our Bible Study.
Despite many conversations with Tomas when he’s come by selling us flowers or asking us to pray for him, it wasn’t until recently that we found out that once the sun sets (between 6 and 7 p.m. almost all year around) their family has had to use candles because they didn’t have electricity.
When Michael heard that, we knew that Tomas’ house was just the place to put that one last sets of solar lights we had on hand.
With help from a visiting friend, we installed the solar lights in the kitchen and two bedrooms at Tomas’ house. Tomas and his wife, Belinda, were pretty excited about having their own lights in the house.
Since 2016, we have delivered over 350 solar powered lights to homes without reliable electricity or none at all. These lights increase safety, reduce expenses for the family and allow students to study at home after the sun goes down.
Along with the solar lights, we also shared with Tomas and his family about the light of Christ that illuminates our own lives when we accept Christ.
Tomas and Belinda were grateful for the new set of lights and joined us as we prayed for them.
Thanks to faithful donors who help us continue reaching out here in Guatemala, we are able to continue bringing the light of God’s word into the homes, lives and hearts of the people of Chichicastenango.
If you would like to help us continue reaching out to the people of Guatemala with the love and light of Christ, below to give a financial gift.
