Earlier this year, Michael met with a group from another ministry talking about training locals to be missionaries and to reach out to their neighbors, regions, and to go outside Guatemala.
Out of that meeting came other meetings, connections, and new relationships that have blossomed into a partnership between ASELSI and Adventures in Missions–two ministries we have connected with.
Michael is part of the local team at ASELSI that is coordinating the six months of missions training that is preparing nearly 100 Guatemalans how to live a life focused on the calling God has for them as missionaries in their home towns and the nations.
One Saturday each month, these students are taking a missions class focused on knowing God, listening to Him, and reaching out to others right where they are. The classes are followed with practice time when the students load up and head into town to walk the streets, visit the police station, pray, and talk with people about Christ.
This is part of our heart for discipling local people to be everything God called them to be. We are excited about this group of local people who have a desire to learn, grow, and go to participate in what God wants to do around and through them.
After the missions training there are additional opportunities for these students to go either to Cuba or Nicaragua in late 2019 to again put their learning into practice. The plan is that Michael and a Guatemalan leader will be co-leading the team to Cuba.
Please pray for this generation of “goers” who are preparing to answer the Great Commission and for these opportunities to help train Guatemalan missionaries to go beyond Latin America and into the Middle East and Asia. The six training sessions with are being held on the final Saturday of each month in Chichicastenango.
