For many young people in Guatemala, finding good work can be a challenge. Some leave their homeland and travel to find work in the USA or other places. Some get education but still struggle to find work. Some get low paying jobs that help them just get by. Still others develop themselves and start new businesses or help others develop theirs.
We are hoping to encourage more of the latter.
With this in mind, we recently took a group of teens to visit INTECAP, a national network of training centers where young people can train in a variety of trades and skills like automobile mechanics, welding, electrical work, gastronomy, cosmetology, electronics repair, computer science, or clothing making.
The INTECAP programs not only teach how to do these different skills but also how to develop a sustainable business around those newly developed skills.
We believe that Guatemalans are well able to develop creative ideas, produce quality work and products, and be successful enough to provide gainful employment to others right here in Guatemala. There were four young men and two young ladies who went with us on the tour . We are hoping that this tour will spark interests in them to not just wait for opportunities to come or to move to other places, but to seek out practical training and develop ideas that God puts in them to improve their lives and serve God’s Kingdom.
