On the edge of the town of Chichicastenango there is a middle school. This middle school holds morning and afternoon classes (technically it’s two schools: one in the morning, one in the afternoon).
It is amazing to watch as the students poor in and out of the doors at the ending of each school day. These waves of students look sharp in their uniforms, but those tidy uniforms don’t tell the story of many hurting hearts. We want to reach those hearts with Jesus.
We are grateful that God has kept opening doors for us to go and speak to and help with these students.
Through a family team earlier this year, we were able to help an English teacher friend of ours in the afternoon classes. The Burks family from Michigan encouraged and challenged the students in their English classes and then presented the Gospel to hundreds of students at a school assembly.
Twice we’ve been invited to speak to the 500+ student assemblies from the morning classes and we’ve been able to present the Gospel along with an encouraging message.
Please pray that God will continue to open doors to not just encourage these students but to help them grow in realtionship with Christ. Also pray that we will have wisdom in how to disciple those who show interest as they learn more about the God who heals broken hearts and brings us new life.
